"Growing Language Through Books"
PROGRAM DEMONSTRATES HOW TO USE BOOKS TO DEVELOP CHILDREN'S SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SKILLS
HAMPTON ROADS, Va. -- Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters will conduct a free reading time workshop for parents and their children, infants to 8 years old, Nov. 16, 10:30-11:45 a.m., at the Newport News Barnes and Noble, 12170 Jefferson Ave.
The hands-on, interactive program, titled "Read with the Experts -- Growing Language Through Books," will be presented by CHKD speech-language pathologists and will demonstrate how parents can use books to develop their child's reading, writing and language skills. The program will include:
10:30-11 a.m. -- Parents learn how to focus on their child's speech and language goals as CHKD speech-language pathologists read from some of their favorite children's books.
11-11:30 a.m. -- Children are organized into age-appropriate groups for a 30-minute reading of a children's book by one of the CHKD specialists.
11:30-11:45 a.m. -- Ask-the-expert question and answer time for parents.
