Audiology Services Now Available at CHKD's Chesapeake Health Center
CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- Comprehensive pediatric audiology services are now available at the CHKD Health Center, 733 Volvo Parkway, in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake.
A broad scope of diagnostic services is being offered to children from birth to age 21, according to Jay Eackles, who oversees the program.
"It's another effort to make CHKD's outpatient services more accessible to the patients in their communities," Eackles said. "We have the same level of diagnostic equipment and testing available as at the main CHKD hospital clinic, and we can refer our patients with hearing problems to CHKD specialists who now regularly see patients at our Chesapeake center."
A hearing loss occurs when there is an improper development, injury, infection or degeneration of the hearing system.
"Even a mild, temporary hearing loss, in one or both ears, can significantly affect speech and language development, learning and socialization," Eackles added.
Testing procedures available in Chesapeake include: newborn hearing screening, diagnostic hearing assessment, auditory brainstem response, pure tone audiometry and speech testing, play/visual reinforcement audiometry, tympanometry and evoked otoacoustic emissions. Depending on insurance coverage, physician referrals may be required for these audiology examinations.
The clinic is open Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. For more information or an appointment, call (757) 547-8577.
