Children's Hospital Telethon Celebration To Air June 2 On WVEC TV

All Proceeds Benefit Pediatric Care in Hampton Roads

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.- Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters' Telethon Celebration 2002, the region's single largest fund-raiser for a children's cause, will be broadcast June 2 on WVEC-TV Channel 13. All proceeds benefit CHKD, the area's only hospital dedicated exclusively to children. CHKD provides a comprehensive range of services - from primary care and immunizations to life-saving critical care - to the children of southeastern Virginia, northeastern North Carolina and Virginia's Eastern Shore. CHKD's outpatient clinics help children with conditions such as cancer, diabetes, sickle cell anemia, asthma and developmental disabilities. The hospital is home to the area's only acute inpatient rehabilitation unit just for children and supports important medical research into the most pressing health care concerns facing children today. The Telethon Celebration will be broadcast live from the CHKD lobby from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2. Regina Mobley, David Alan, Joe Flanagan, Sandra Parker, LaSalle Blanks, Craig Moeller and Scott Cash are among the WVEC reporters and anchors who will host portions of the Telethon Celebration. Representatives from many local businesses and organizations that raise funds for CHKD will present their gifts live on the Telethon Celebration. But the real stars of the event are the CHKD patients and their families, who will share their dramatic stories with viewers. They will speak about their experiences at CHKD and what it is like to deal with the illness or injury of a child. CHKD is one of the 170 premier hospitals affiliated with Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for affiliated children's hospitals throughout North America.
