Design Magazine Cites Children's Hospital Project

NORFOLK, Va.--A new pediatric rehabilitation unit at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) here has been cited for its interior design excellence by the publication Buildings Interiors in the magazine’s annual Design Awards Program. The design award was made to Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc. (HSMM), a Virginia-based architecture and engineering firm. HSMM’s Virginia Beach and Roanoke offices played key roles in the design. The publication named winners in five categories from among 100 entries. HSMM was the winner in the Healthcare category, recognizing the work of project interior designer Jamie S. Gaabo, architect Robert T. Jackson, and interior designer Peter D. Brown. W. M. Jordan Co., Inc., of Norfolk was the General Contractor. Construction of the pediatric unit, which opened in 1999, was underwritten by a large donation from Food Lion, Inc. CHKD serves children from the Southeastern and Eastern Shore areas of Virginia, and Northeastern North Carolina. HSMM employs nearly 450 professional architects, engineers, technicians and support personnel in ten offices across the mid-Atlantic region. HSMM is involved in projects throughout the world and is consistently ranked among the nation’s leading design firms. (http://www.hsmm.com)
