May Classes, Programs and Lectures

  • April 29 -- World Crisis: How Can Families Cope? Free. 6:30-8:15 p.m., CHKD Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. Learn from a panel of experts about talking to your children about frightening world events, coping with emotions and fears, managing stress and positive discipline and safe and secure child care. Civilian and military family support agencies will also be present to provide resources and answer questions.
  • April 30-June 11 – Healthy You Program. Fee required; tuition assistance available. 6:30-8:00 p.m., CHKD Health Center, 3rd floor, 733 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. An educational program for overweight children and their parents. This program includes an individual assessment and a seven-week “Healthy You” lifestyle series. Call 668-7035 for registration material and fee information.
  • May 8 -- Navigating IEP and 504 Plans. Free. 7-8:30 p.m., CHKD Health Center, 3rd floor, 733 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. For parents who want to gain information about navigating the special education system.
  • May 15 -- Bed-wetting – When To Be Concerned. Free. 7-8:30 p.m. Pediatric Diagnostic Center, 6345 Center Drive, Bldg. 14, Norfolk. A pediatrician will discuss this common concern for parents and provide coping strategies and tips to prevent accidents in the future.
  • May 21 -- Positive Discipline. Free. 7-8:30 p.m. CHKD, 6th floor conf. room, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. Learn about several discipline techniques that work without yelling, arguing or spanking.
