September Classes, Programs and Lectures

  • Sept. 10 – October 22 – Healthy You Program. Fee required; tuition assistance available. 6:30-8 p.m., CHKD Health Center, 850 Southampton Ave., Norfolk. An educational program for overweight teens (12 years and up) and their parents. This program includes an individual assessment and a seven-week “Healthy You” lifestyle series.   • Sept. 10 – Dealing with Bullying. Free. 7-8:30 p.m., CHKD Medical Group’s Pediatric Specialists, 300 Medical Parkway, Suite 222, Chesapeake. Learn behaviors leading to bullying, the emotional effects on children and how parents and teachers can help.
  • Sept. 13 – Safe Sitters Class. Fee: $35. 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., CHKD’s Discovery Care Center, 811 Redgate Ave., Norfolk. For 11- to 14-year-olds who want to learn how to become safe and nurturing baby sitters.
  • Sept. 15 – Positive Discipline. Free. 7-8:30 p.m., CHKD Health Center, 3rd floor, 733 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. Learn several discipline techniques that work without yelling, arguing or spanking.
  • Sept. 18 – Oct. 9, Infant Massage. Fee: $40. 6:15-7:30 p.m. CHKD Medical Group’s Pediatric Specialists, 160 Kingsley Lane, Suite 305, Norfolk. Four-session class for parents with infants 2 weeks old to crawling; learn relaxing, soothing techniques to reduce stress, deepen bonding and help baby sleep better.
  • Sept. 22 – October 13, Infant Massage. Fee: $40. Noon-1 p.m. CHKD Health Center, 850 Southampton Ave., Norfolk. Four-session class for parents with infants 2 weeks old to crawling; learn relaxing, soothing techniques to reduce stress, deepen bonding and help baby sleep better.Type here
  • Sept. 30 – Busy Parents, Busy Teens. Free. 7-8:30 p.m. CHKD Health Center, 3rd floor, 733 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake. Parents and teens learn what impairs communication and stresses the relationships within families. Separate breakout sessions for parents and teens followed by a group wrap-up.
