Joseph F. Dilustro, MD, FACS, has returned to Hampton Roads, joining the neurosurgery division of Children's Hospital's Surgical Group. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Dilustro will join Jerry O. Penix, MD, in providing full pediatric neurosurgical services at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Drs. Dilustro and Penix will also provide adult care. Dr. Dilustro was previously on staff and practiced at CHKD from 1989 through 1997. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Virginia and a medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. He completed a neurological surgery residency at EVMS and was a clinical fellow in neurological surgery at the London Health Sciences Center in London, Ontario, Canada. The Surgical Group, operated by Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, includes pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic and sports medicine specialists and urologists. Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only facility of its kind in Virginia, serving the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The not-for-profit hospital was founded in 1961 and provides care to nearly 130,000 children each year as inpatients and outpatients, addressing routine and complex illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions. The CHKD Health System operates primary care pediatric practices, surgical practices, multi-service Health Centers and satellite offices throughout its service region. The System also includes a child care center, Center for Pediatric Research and a multitude of opportunities for the community to provide philanthropic support to CHKD, including numerous Thrift Store locations.
