A full day of free mini-racing for the entire family.
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The 2nd Annual CHKD Mini Grand Prix, sponsored by RE/MAX Allegiance Realty, will be held September 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Harbor Park in Norfolk. Eighteen Grand Prix racing-styled mini Nascars, sponsored by local corporations and organizations, will go full throttle around a special racecourse set up in the stadium’s parking lot. This annual event has all the feel of big-time racing, with pace cars, team uniforms, beautifully customized racecars and a pit row.
The event is free and open to the public. Concessions will be available and serving a variety of refreshments for donations. All proceeds from the race sponsorships and entry fees and the concessions will go to benefit CHKD.
The course is approximately one-third mile and includes a series of straights, bends and hairpin turns. Races are comprised of 20-lap heats, and during each race there are mandatory driver changes and tire changes. Each team is comprised of two drivers, three pit crewmembers and one alternate driver. After the preliminary and semi-final heats, the championship race will be conducted to determine the overall winner. The cars are Styled Nascars equipped with 3.5-horsepower gasoline engines that are capable of 25-30 mile per hour racing speeds.
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only facility of its kind in Virginia, serving the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
