September 21: “How to Help the Angry and Defiant Child”

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The first in a year-long series of parenting workshops on developing better relationships with children will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on September 21, 7-9 p.m., in the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. The first workshop, “How to Help the Angry and Defiant Child,” will feature what causes problem behaviors in children and will provide positive tools and techniques that can work for the entire family. “If your child is chronically acting out or misbehaving, and if you’ve ‘tried everything and nothing works’, this program is for you,” said Sandra “Sam” Fabian, CHKD community outreach coordinator. Expert guest speaker for this first workshop is Sonya N. Peretti, clinical co-director of the Post Institute for Family-Centered Therapy in Williamsburg. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor and in private practice in Yorktown, where she works with families adults and adolescents, providing family-based therapy. Peretti holds a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s in psychology. The workshop is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested. For more information or to register call (757) 668-7500 or visit, where information about future workshops also is available. The lecture series is made possible by a $45,700 grant from Kohl’s through its Kohls’ Cares for Kids Campaign.
