CHKD FAMILY FUN DAY CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW PENINSULA OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER AND THERAPY POOL

Grand Opening and Open House – Sept. 24, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Peninsula-area families are invited to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters’ opening celebration of a new, first-ever pediatric outpatient surgery center and an aquatics therapy pool during an open house and family fun day September 24, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Oyster Point, 11783 Rock Landing Drive. Plenty of fun, free activities are planned, such as:
  • A Healthy Bear Tour of the new operating suites, medical clinics, physical, occupational and speech therapy facilities, an aquatics therapy pool, a sports medicine gym, X-ray and laboratory facilities and more
  • Crafts, Moonwalk, bowling and other games
  • Car seat safety checks (11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
  • Clowns and face painting
  • Radio Disney
  • Bicycle exercise trailer and bike safety demonstrations
  • Drawings for free bikes
  • CHKD’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit
  • Fire engine and fire safety information
  • Refreshments
  • Physicians, nurses, therapists and other CHKD employees will answer questions about the Center’s services and programs. The Center is located at the corner of Rock Landing Drive and Omni Boulevard near the Omni Hotel, just off I-64’s J. Clyde Morris Boulevard exit. Signs will be posted for directions. The CHKD Health and Surgery Center is the hospital’s first permanent home on the Peninsula and serves patients and families from Newport News, Hampton, York County, Poquoson, Gloucester, Williamsburg, Isle of Wight County and beyond. Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is the only facility of its kind in Virginia, serving the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The not-for-profit hospital was founded in 1961 and provides care to approximately 160,000 children each year as inpatients and outpatients, addressing routine and complex illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions. The CHKD Health System operates primary care pediatric practices, surgical practices, multi-service Health Centers and satellite offices throughout its service region.
