January 31: “Overindulgence: How Much is Enough?”

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The fourth in a year-long series of parenting workshops on developing better relationships with children will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on January 31, 7-9 p.m., in the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. The workshop -- “Overindulgence: How Much is Enough?” -- will explore the fine line between love and overindulgence and help parents recognize when expressing love crosses the line into overindulgence. Attendees will learn: how overindulgence differs from spoiling; common ways parents overindulge children and how to avoid it; why chores are important; and how to say “No” with love. Expert guest speaker for this workshop is Jean Illsley Clarke, Ph.D., a parent educator and author of parenting books, including “How Much is Enough?” about the dangers of overindulging children. She is nationally known for her workshops on self-esteem, child and adult development, family strengths and team building. She has been a keynote speaker at conferences and workshops across the U.S. and internationally. The workshop is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested. For more information or to register call (757) 668-7500 or visit, where information about future workshops also is available. The lecture series is made possible by a $45,700 grant from Kohl’s through its Kohl’s Cares for Kids Campaign.
