February 16: “The Parenting Journey”

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The fifth in a year-long series of parenting workshops on developing better relationships with children will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on February 16, 7-9 p.m., in the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. The workshop -- “The Parenting Journey” – will provide new, practical and creative resources to help raise healthy, emotionally intelligent children. It will include a fun and interactive learning experience that uses maps, guides and practical tips to make parenting pleasurable and successful. Expert guest speaker for this workshop is H. Wallace Goodard, Ph.D., a family life extension specialist at the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. He developed the “Principles of Parenting” used in several states, and he is responsible for developing “The Great Self Mystery,” a youth development program adopted by many national organizations. Dr. Goddard serves on the editorial board for the Children, Youth and Families Education and Research Network and is book review editor for “Family Relations.” He also teaches graduate courses on family life education. The workshop is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested. For more information or to register call (757) 668-7500 or visit, where information about future workshops also is available. The lecture series is made possible by a $45,700 grant from Kohl’s through its Kohl’s Cares for Kids Campaign.
