April 19: “Why spanking doesn’t work – and what to do instead”

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The seventh in a year-long series of parenting workshops on developing better relationships with children will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on April 19, 7-9 p.m., in the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. The workshop -- “Why spanking doesn’t work – and what to do instead” – will explore the latest research about spanking and other ways to help children manage their behavior. Featured presenter for this workshop is Stephen J. Bavolek, Ph.D., president of Family Development Resources Inc., and executive director of The Family Nurturing Centers, International. He has conducted more than 1,500 workshops, has appeared on more than 70 radio and television programs and has published numerous books, articles, programs and newsletters promoting nurturing attitudes and skills for the prevention and treatment of child abuse. The workshop is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested.
