23rd Annual Telethon Celebration to Benefit CHKD, to Air June 4 on WVEC-TV13

HAMPTON ROADS, VA -- The 23rd Annual Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters' Telethon Celebration, the region's single largest fund-raiser for a children's cause, will be broadcast June 4, on WVEC-TV Channel 13. WVEC’s David Alan, Joe Flanagan, Regina Mobley, Craig Moeller, Sandra Parker and Janet Roach will host the Telethon Celebration on Sunday, June 4. In a break from the past, the local broadcast will air live from 3 to 8 p.m., following the national Children’s Miracle Network production. The hosts will interview current and former patients who will tell their amazing stories and their families who will explain what it is like to deal with the illness or injury of a child. The broadcast will also feature representatives from local businesses and organizations who will present their gifts from fund-raisers held throughout the year. In addition to the action in the lobby, WVEC medical editor Kathryn Barrett will do live reports from the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and transitional care unit. Adding to this year’s exciting broadcast will be a raffle for a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible. Viewers who call in their pledge of $100 or more will be entered in the drawing which will be held at 11 p.m. June 4. All proceeds benefit CHKD, the area's only hospital dedicated exclusively to children. CHKD provides a comprehensive range of services -- from primary care and immunizations to life-saving critical care -- to the children of southeastern Virginia, northeastern North Carolina and Virginia's Eastern Shore. CHKD is one of the 170 premier hospitals affiliated with Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for affiliated children's hospitals throughout North America. Telethon Celebration pledges can be made June 4, by calling (757) 668-9000 or 1-866-580-5437 or by logging on to www.chkd.org.
