CHKD Bioethics Advisory Committee Hosts Free Evening of Film and Discussion
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The CHKD Bioethics Advisory Committee will host a free evening of film and discussion on November 1, 7:15-10 p.m., at the Naro Expanded Cinema, 1507 Colley Avenue, Norfolk.
The program will feature a presentation of Simon Birch, a film about two boys who are faced with being outcasts from birth. It is filled with heartwarming drama, compassion, “difference” and humor.
Following the film, Dr. Jeffrey Brosco, associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine and director of clinical services at Mailman Center for Child Development, will lead a discussion about the film and the main theme of “being different” and what it means to both children and adults. Dr. Brosco will be in the area to participate as the featured presenter during CHKD’s 17th Annual Bioethics Day program the following day at the hospital, which also will focus on the historical and contemporary issues and challenges that children with developmental disabilities and their families face in society.
The film is rated PG. There is no charge for admission to the program; however, pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call (757) 668-7500 or visit www.chkd.org/classes.
