Kohl’s Provides Grant for CHKD Community Workshops
Retailer Supports Local Programs for Parents, Professionals about Developing Better Relationships with Children
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—Kohl’s Department stores, through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, yesterday presented Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk a $56,557 check to provide a year-long series of programs to help parents and professionals throughout the community develop better relationships with children. The series brings nationally noted speakers on a variety of parenting issues and children’s health topics from around the country to the region. The programs are free and open to the public and are presented at various convenient locations throughout the year.
This is the second year Kohl’s has supported the highly popular series.
“These programs provide an invaluable service to our community and help CHKD reach and support thousands of parents and professionals who are dealing with the challenges of raising and counseling children in difficult times,” said Beth Duke, CHKD’s senior vice president for community relations. “We’re grateful for this wonderful support and the opportunity we have to partner with Kohl’s in this way. Kohl’s generosity and commitment to CHKD’s mission and our local children and families is a wonderful example of the value-added this corporate good neighbor brings to our region.” Kohl’s has supported CHKD programs since 2004, providing more than $125,000 during that time.
“Kohl’s introduced the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® program to promote children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift item, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s Department Stores. “We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve created with children’s hospitals across the country, and are excited to join CHKD in this endeavor.”
Net profits from the program’s sales go to support opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl’s. Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids Who Care®, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
