Free Workshops for Professionals, Parents Presented by CHKD, Kohl’s
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.- Two free workshops exploring a dietician’s strategies to help families reach better health, one for professionals and one for parents, will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on March 13 at the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk.
The professional’s workshop, 9 a.m.-noon, is entitled “Eating Nutritionally in a Fast-paced world.” The workshop will discuss how to counsel families on how to eat nutritionally in our hectic environment. Participants will receive practical resources that can be easily used in a practice setting.
The parent’s workshop, 7-9 p.m., is entitled “Better Nutrition for Healthier Kids” and will teach parents practical tips for living a healthier lifestyle. Parents will learn how to get picky eaters to widen their selections and will get new ideas for making fast and nutritious meals.
Featured presenter is registered dietician Connie Liakos Evers, author of the children’s books Good for You! (2006) and How to Teach Nutrition to Kids (2006). She is a consultant and author specializing in the health of children and adolescents. Evers is also a nutrition education consultant to schools, universities, state agencies, WIC and USDA child nutrition programs throughout the nation. She helps develop programs and provides hands-on training to professionals, parents, and care-givers.
The workshops are free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested. For more information or to register, call (757) 668-7500 or visit www.chkd.org/classes. The workshops are part of a series of lectures to help parents and professionals build stronger relationships with their children. The series is made possible by a $56,557 grant from Kohl’s through the Kohl’s Care for Kids campaign.
