Free Workshops for Professionals, Parents Presented by CHKD, Kohl’s
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.- Two free workshops exploring how to help families manage their children’s behaviors and how to and strike a good balance between strictness and permissiveness, will be presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores on April 25 at the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk.
The professional’s workshop, 1-4 p.m., is entitled “Managing Challenging Behaviors.” It will explore how parents can change their behavior to make positive changes in the lives of their children, using self-discipline to provide children with a sense of safety, acceptance and community. It also will demonstrate the principles and strategies of “Conscious Discipline” for helping children with attention deficit disorder.
The parent’s workshop, 7-9 p.m., is entitled “Setting Limits without Guilt.” It will help parents balance between being too permissive and too strict. And it will explore how parents can shift their focus from managing their guilt to managing their children by being an effective leader in the home and empowering their children to be successful.
Featured presenter is Becky A. Bailey, Ph.D., an award-winning author, teacher and internationally recognized expert in childhood education and developmental psychology. She is the founder of Loving Guidance Inc., a company dedicated to creating positive environments for children, families, schools and businesses.
