Kohl’s Partners with CHKD to Prevent Childhood Obesity

$56,000 Donation presented September 27

On September 27, Kohl’s Department stores, through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, presented Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters a $56,000 check to fund “Healthy University,” a year-long community outreach program to help prevent childhood obesity in our community.

Healthy University” will bring nationally noted speakers to the region to speak on a variety of healthy lifestyle topics. The donation will also fund a publication that will teach young people how to make healthy lifestyle choices. This is the third year Kohl’s has supported CHKD’s community outreach programs.

“These programs provide an invaluable service to our community and help CHKD reach and support thousands of parents and professionals who are dealing with the challenges of raising and counseling children in difficult times,” said Beth Duke, CHKD’s senior vice president for community relations. “We’re grateful for this wonderful support and the opportunity we have to partner with Kohl’s in this way. Kohl’s generosity and commitment to CHKD’s mission and our local children and families is a wonderful example of the value-added this corporate good neighbor brings to our region.” Kohl’s has supported CHKD programs since 2004, providing more than $183,000 during that time.

“Kohl’s introduced the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® program to promote children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of a special gift item. We are committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s Department Stores. “We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve created with children’s hospitals across the country, and are excited to join CHKD in this endeavor.”

Net profits from the program’s sales go to support opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl’s. Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids Who Care®, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
