Surgeon joins CHKD Surgical Group’s Urology practice
Urologist Jyoti Upadhyay, M.D., a nationally recognized expert in the field of pediatric urology, has joined Dr. Charles Horton and Dr. Jean Hollowell at CHKD Surgical Group's urology practice. Prior to joining CHKD, Upadhyay was chief and director of pediatric urology at State University Hospital of New York.
Dr. Upadhyay is a pioneer in the development of minimally-invasive techniques in pediatric urology. She attended medical school and completed her urology residency at Wayne State University in Michigan. During her fellowship training in pediatric urology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, she received the prestigious American Foundation of Urologic Disease Scholarship.
Upadhyay's special interests include complex genitourinary reconstructive surgery including augmentation cystoplasty and catheterizable urinary stomas for neurogenic bowel and bladder disease. She also has performed extensive reconstructive surgery for ambiguous genitalia, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and intersex states. Other specialties include minimally invasive laparoscopic kidney procedures, uteroscopy and the use of holmium laser in the treatment of pediatric kidney and ureteral stones. She is also certified to perform daVinci robotic-assisted pyeloplasties for utereral anomalies.
Dr. Upadhyay is board certified in urology and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She will operate and see patients at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, the CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Oyster Point and the new CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Princess Anne in Virginia Beach, which will open in late 2008.
