“Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World”
Free Workshop for Parents Presented by CHKD and Kohl’s on April 8th
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—A free workshop -- “Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World” -- will be presented April 8, 7-9 p.m., in CHKD’s Brickhouse Auditorium, 2nd floor, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk.
Parents will learn how to help their children become more self-reliant and make good decisions using seven building blocks for developing trust, dignity, respect, self-discipline, responsibility, good judgment and perseverance.
The presenter will be Jane Nelsen, Ph.D., co-author of “Raising Self-Reliant Children in a Self-Indulgent World” and 17 other books and a licensed marriage, family and child counselor in Utah and California. She has shown more than two million parents and educators how to permanently end power struggles while building positive, healthy relationships with children and teens.
The workshop is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is requested. For more information or to register, call (757) 668-7500 or (800) 395-2453 or visit www.chkd.org/classes.
The program is co-presented by Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Kohl’s Department Stores as part of a year-long series of lectures to help parents and professionals build stronger relationships with their children. The series is made possible by a $56,000 grant from Kohl’s through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids Campaign.
