Area First Graders to Participate in Let's Pretend Children's Hospital, May 13-16

WHAT: Children's Hospital of The King's Daughter will host Let's Pretend Children's Hospital, a special field trip for first graders, May 13-16. The program takes children on a tour of a mock hospital staffed by real CHKD employees. Each room of the pretend hospital will resemble an area of the real hospital. There will be an emergency room, a radiology room, an operating room, a laboratory, a patient's room, a hospital playroom, a hospital school program area and a CHKD transport vehicles. Each station will offer hands-on learning experiences as students pretend to be patients who need casts, surgery, X-rays, etc.

WHO: Approximately more than 1,300 students from Hampton Roads public and private are expected to participate.

WHY: To lessen children's fear and anxiety about going to the hospital while teaching them important lessons about health and safety in an entertaining, engaging format.

WHEN: 9:30 a.m.-noon May 13-16. Students will arrive at various intervals each morning during the four-day event. Coordinate with CHKD PR to arrange a suitable time for coverage.
