Free Child Fair to be held Aug. 17-18
Hampton Roads Convention Center
- Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Healthy Families Partnership will present Child Fair 2008 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 and Monday, Aug. 18, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The purpose of this free event is to provide a fun, family environment that will help get children ready for school.
Child Fair is an opportunity for families to enjoy hours of fun together. Things to see and do include touring a fire truck and CHKD’s transport unit; meeting costumed characters; a fitness trail that includes Dance Dance Revolution, bowling, trike races and a rock wall. And, it’s all in the comfort of air conditioning.
Families can also take advantage of free health screenings including speech, language, hearing and vision for children ages 3 to 5. There will be behavioral and emotional development assessments for children and adults and dental checks for all children under 14. Information and community resources will be provided by vendors and exhibitors that cater to children and families.
Every child who attends Child Fair will receive a new, age appropriate book. The book mobile will also be on site for the children to visit. A story time area will be set up for the families to stop, rest and listen to stories read aloud.
