Construction began this summer on CHKD's new Health Center in Chesapeake
Norfolk, VA - - Construction began this summer on CHKD's new Health Center in Chesapeake.
The 60,000-square-foot, three-story building will be situated on nearly 7 acres at 500 Discovery Drive in the Oakbrooke Business and Technology Center near the intersection of Battlefield Boulevard and Kempsville Road.
The center will house practices and services currently located in Greenbrier on Volvo Parkway and at Kingsborough Square. Additionally, a sleep lab and a therapy pool will be included at the new location. Planned opening is December 2009.
"Demand for CHKD services in Chesapeake continues to grow," said Jim Dahling, CHKD president and CEO. "As a result we needed to increase our space and facilities to provide the kind and quality of services families in Chesapeake expect and deserve. The size of the Oakbrooke building will expand and improve access to current and new services and allow us to consolidate at one location, also making it more convenient for our patients and families."
Chesapeake has the second highest number of children in the Hampton Roads region, with approximately 20 percent of the southside’s pediatric population. At CHKD’s Chesapeake locations, patient visits increased from 41,666 in 2005 to 55,545 in 2007, a 33.3 percent increase.
Services and practices relocating to the new location include: surgical group practices, sports medicine, a sports medicine gym, PT/OT/speech therapies, audiology, lab, radiology, specialists offices and outpatient clinics; Chesapeake Pediatrics, a primary care practice, and a community meeting room.
