NICU Graduates Celebrate Success
Saturday, September 13 at CHKD
Hampton Roads, Va. - On Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, more than 50 former patients of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters will reunite with the pediatric experts who cared for them during their first, difficult days of life.
The reunion will take place in the hospital’s Brickhouse Auditorium and will feature refreshments, safety and health information and a chance for families and medical staff to celebrate the shared successes of these very special children.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital of The King’s Daughters is the region’s largest and most sophisticated critical care facility for newborns. Approximately 500 babies are admitted to CHKD’s NICU every year from hospitals throughout southeastern Virginia, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Most of those babies are born prematurely - some as early as 23 weeks gestation. Others are born full-term, but suffer from critical illnesses or birth defects that threaten their lives. At CHKD, NICU patients receive medical care from experts in dozens of pediatric specialties while their families receive the care and support they need to cope with a baby's illness and hospitalization.
While the reunion is open only to invited guests, the media is welcome to cover the event. For more information, please call Ridgely Ingersoll at (757) 668-9087.
