Macy’s, Aflac Duck Fight Childhood Cancer
Holiday duck sales raise funds for CHKD
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.— Aflac and participating area Macy’s department stores are once again teaming up to raise money to fight childhood cancer and promote research at CHKD by donating profits from the sales of the 2008 Aflac Holiday Duck. These collectible plush ducks have been flying off department store shelves since 2001 and have raised nearly $2 million to benefit more than 30 children’s hospitals across the country.
“We have been able to transform the Aflac duck from a corporate mascot into an emblem of hope, which is what thousands of families facing childhood cancer need most,” said Buffy Swinehart, who manages Aflac’s philanthropy division.
The 2008 limited edition of the talking duck comes dressed in holiday garb and makes a wonderful gift or stocking stuffer for family and friends. When squeezed, the duck quacks its famous “Aflac, Aflac, Aflaaaac!”
The cost is $10 for a six-inch plush duck and $15 for the 10-inch version. In addition to Macy’s stores, shoppers can also visit aflac.com or macys.com to view the selection or make a purchase, with 100 percent of the proceeds from in-store and online sales benefiting the children’s hospitals nearest to where the purchase is made.
