CHKD Speech Therapist Honored
(March 15, Norfolk, VA) Angie Coggin, CHKD Speech Therapy Supervisor, recently received the Martha Mullins-Callender Award from the Communications Disorders Foundation of Virginia at their annual Speech-Language Hearing Association of Virginia (SHAV) conference in Richmond.
Established in 1989, the Martha Mullins-Callender Award is presented annually to a individual working in the field of communications disorders who "overcomes all obstacles" to help the profession flourish.
Coggin's award was based on her contributions to the field of Speech Language Pathology. Presenters noted that “she has worked diligently to improve the lives of countless children with a variety of disabilities including dysphagia, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, cleft lip and palate, and many syndromes.” She was described to have boundless energy, with a “can do” attitude and an innate ability to find ways to enhance a child’s skills.
Coggin was also recognized for the many therapists she has mentored and trained over the years to walk in her footsteps to become exemplary speech-language pathologists.
