Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon Joins CHKD Surgical Group
NORFOLK, Va. –- Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is pleased to welcome Dr. Ali Mumtaz to its cardiac surgery program. Prior to joining CHKD, Dr. Mumtaz spent eight years at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, most recently as surgical director of their pediatric heart transplant program.
In conjunction with CHKD’s cardiologists, Dr. Mumtaz will offer a full spectrum of care, from diagnosis and treatment to long-term follow-up, for children born with complex cardiac defects.
Dr. Mumtaz received his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Pakistan and completed his internship at Mayo Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. He did his surgical residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center, in Farmington, Connecticut and his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Mid America Heart Institute, St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is board-certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery.
