Schools will vaccinate area children for flu, Virginia Health Commission announces at CHKD

Health Commissioner Holds H1N1 Press Briefing at CHKD

All schools in the region have agreed to vaccinate children for both seasonal and pandemic H1N1 flu, Virginia’s Commissioner of Health Karen Remley, MD, announced during a visit to CHKD.

Dr. Remley said that the state will have plenty of vaccine available in the coming weeks. She anticipates that school-based vaccination clinics will start in about two weeks. Individuals with questions about the flu or the vaccine can call 1-877-ASK-VDH3, a special phone line created to keep doctors' phone lines free for sick patients.

As wider distribution of the H1N1 vaccines occurs, the State Department of Health website, www.vdh.state.va.us, will offer updated information about where to find vaccines in your area.
