CHKD free public programs in February

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD Health System in February.

February 3 - March 4, BodyWorks. Free. 10 – 11:30 a.m. CHKD Health Center at Oakbrooke, 500 Discovery Dr., Chesapeake. Open to any parent or caregiver who is interested in improving their families' eating and activity habits. This free 10-session, 5-week course offers a wealth of information and a toolkit to help make small, specific changes to help maintain a healthy weight and body. Space is limited. Call 668-7035 to register. Class dates will be: February 3, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and March 2 and 4.

February 11, Meet and Greet. Free. 5:30 p.m. Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg, 119 Bulifants Boulevard, Williamsburg. Please join us for our complimentary Open House, whether you are a new expectant parent, new to the area, or simply looking for a pediatrician. Plan to attend our Meet and Greet informational gatherings designed for you to meet our physicians and nurse practitioners as well as receive a tour of our facilities. February 18, Baby Care 101. Free.  7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg, 119 Bulifants Boulevard, Williamsburg. Please join us for our free Baby Care 101 class for expectant and newborn parents who want to learn about providing a safe and secure environment for their infant. Learn about how to bathe and comfort your baby, belly button and diaper care, how to position your baby for sleep and general household and car seat safety tips. February 18, Trauma in Childhood. Free. 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Old Dominion University, Web Center Newport News Room, Hampton Blvd., Norfolk. Experiencing trauma during childhood has long lasting effects. Dr. John Briere, author of Child Abuse Trauma, will discuss the personal and social effects trauma has on children and learn what you and our community can do to prevent it and help those who suffer. February 25, Breastfeeding. Free. 6:30 – 7:30. Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg, 119 Bulifants Boulevard, Williamsburg. Please join us for our free breastfeeding class. This is an introductory breastfeeding preparation class is designed to inform the prospective breastfeeding mother about the advantages of and contraindications to breastfeeding. Several topics are discussed including proper positioning; latch on tips, management of engorgement and sore nipples, as well as returning to work and maternal medications while workig.
