Kohl’s donates more than $100,000 to CHKD – bringing total donations to $456,867
HAMPTON ROADS, VA – Kohl’s Department Store, through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program, donated more than $100,000 to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
“Kohl’s has been a great supporter of children’s hospitals and children’s health across the country,” said Sam Fabian, CHKD community outreach program manager. “We are very fortunate to have such a great partner here in the region.”
Kohl’s presented a check for $102,914 to CHKD on Oct. 7 as part of its Kohl’s Cares Family Forum, a program that sponsors and funds free presentations and school-based programs with nationally known speakers on parenting, education and children’s health.
With the help of Kohl’s, CHKD has been able to offer free lectures with nationally known programs such as Dr. Harvey Karp’s popular “Happiest Baby on the Block” that helps new parents navigate the first months of Baby's life, while learning how to soothe even the fussiest infant.
Each year, Kohl’s funds also allow CHKD to give more than 100 school-based presentations to thousands of students at approximately 75 area schools. These include bringing in national programs such as Quiet Riot and Primary Focus, which help students build character, stay healthy and deal with issues such as bullying.
Since 2004, Kohl’s has donated more than $450,000 to support CHKD’s community outreach programs as well as CHKD’s Reach Out and Read child literacy program.
Kohl’s Cares includes a merchandise program featuring $5 books and plush toys, with 100% of profits supporting hospital partnerships. Kohl's has raised more than $150 million dollars through this merchandise program. CHKD receives proceeds from Kohl’s stores located in Hampton Roads, the Peninsula and parts of North Carolina.
In addition, Kohl's Cares features a scholarship program, which recognizes more than 2,100 young volunteers with a total of $410,000 in scholarships and prizes this year; the Associates in Action program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provided more than $10 million in grants to youth-focused nonprofit organizations last year alone; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.
