Kohl’s sponsored free public programs in November

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD and Kohl’s Cares Family Forum in November.

November 3, Great Expectations - The first three years. Free. 7-8:30 p.m. 6th Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, 6th floor conference room, Norfolk. This workshop is designed to help parent's create nurturing environments, increase parenting confidence, and promote optimal physical, intellectual, language, and social/emotional development in their infants and toddlers. Parents will explore how to create consistent routines, set appropriate expectations and limits, and support learning through play and exploration. November 11, Winning the Game of Life - A program for parents and teens. Free. 7-8:30 p.m. CHKD Brickhouse Auditorium, 2nd floor, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk. Rayna Dubose will share her heroic story of courage and resilience. Learn how she went from receiving a full athletic scholarship to play college basketball to overcoming amputation of her limbs in her freshman year due to a bacterial disease. November 13, Happiest Baby on the Block. FREE. 9:30-11:30 a.m. 6th Floor Conference Room, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk. This two-hour class for expectant and new parents will help Mom and Dad navigate the first months of Baby's life while learning how to soothe even the fussiest infant in minutes and help Baby sleep longer. Parents will learn about the calming reflex, the cuddle cure and the "5 Ss." All participants will receive "The Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD by Dr. Harvey Karp and a soothing sounds CD. November 17, Extraordinary Measures- FREE Movie/Talk Event. Free. 7:15 p.m. Naro Expanded Cinema, 1503 Colley Ave., Norfolk. Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell star in the upcoming movie inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. Crowley (Brendan Fraser) teams up with a brilliant, but unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford) and together they form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving drug.
