Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters renew network agreements
NORFOLK, Va—May 13, 2011— Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia and Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) have completed agreements that extend the participation of all CHKD facilities and physicians in Anthem’s commercial and affiliated-HMO networks until December 31, 2014. The three-and-a-half year agreements are effective June 1, 2011. No other details were disclosed.
“Anthem and CHKD have enjoyed a long relationship, and we are very pleased to have Virginia’s premier full-service pediatric facility and its affiliated physicians remain a part of our provider networks. These agreements ensure that Anthem members in the Hampton Roads area will continue to have in-network access to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Children’s Surgical Specialty Group and the pediatricians in Children’s Medical Group,” said C. Burke King, president, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “We feel everyone wins in partnerships like this--the hospital system and its physicians, Anthem and most importantly, the community.”
“We worked very hard to achieve an outcome that would serve the best interests of our patients and our community overall,” said Jim Dahling, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health System. “I am confident that this new agreement does just that,” Dahling continued, “Our patients come first, and we understand that this has been a very difficult time for all involved, but most especially for our patients and their families. Thus, we want to assure families – especially those who may have postponed or cancelled care at CHKD or who felt they had to leave their CHKD provider -- that we will do everything in our power to make it as easy as possible to get children rescheduled for care or re-enrolled with our physicians," Dahling concluded.
