CHKD child abuse program receives $7,500 grant
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.— CHKD’s Child Abuse Program received a $7,500 award from Virginia’s Family and Children’s Trust Fund.
Formed in 1986, the Family and Children’s Trust Fund is administered by a Board of Trustees appointed by Virginia’s governor to raise and distribute funds to local communities for family violence prevention, treatment and public awareness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The grant will help support CHKD’s child abuse program, which offers children a safe and nurturing environment in which to begin the healing process in the aftermath of abuse and neglect. CHKD’s program provides diagnostic, assessment and treatment services and seeks to coordinate the efforts of various community agencies working together on behalf of the abused child.
Specifically, this grant will allow professionals at the program to provide 60 psychological consultations to children throughout southeast Virginia who are referred to the Child Abuse Program.
CHKD is the only freestanding children’s hospital in Virginia and serves the medical and surgical needs of children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The CHKD Health System operates primary care pediatric practices, surgical practices, multi-service Health Centers and satellite offices throughout its service region.
