AAP honors CHKD pediatrician for autism work
HAMPTON ROADS, Va.— CHKD pediatrician John Harrington was honored by the American Academy of Pediatrics with a special achievement award for distinguished service and dedication in recognition of his advocacy efforts to promote effective care of children with autism.
As Division of General Academic Pediatrics Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Harrington has been active in research and community outreach on efforts to create a medical home for children with autism.
Harrington has published dozens of journal articles on a number of subjects, including childhood obesity and autism. His “tipping point” research drew national interest with its suggestion that childhood obesity begins as early as 2 years old.
As the father of an autistic child, Harrington has made the study and treatment of autism a major focus of his research and community outreach.
