Dr. Harvey Karp, renowned pediatrician and parenting expert, to speak at May 20 Baby Expo

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—Dr. Harvey Karp, the man who taught Michelle Pfeiffer, Pierce Brosnan and Madonna how to calm their agitated infants, is bringing his heralded parenting tips to the CHKD Baby Expo on Sunday, May 20, in Chesapeake.

The Baby Expo, which will run from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Marriott Chesapeake, 725 Woodlake Drive, will include a beautiful baby contest, meetings with pediatricians and CHKD infant and toddler health experts, free gifts bags to the first 500 people and a door prize of one night at the Marriott Chesapeake.

But the headline attraction will be Dr. Karp, whose celebrity rivals that once held by Dr. Benjamin Spock.

In his bestselling book and award-winning DVD, “The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer,” Dr. Karp explains why some parents can soothe even colicky infants in minutes.

Thousands of parents, from working moms to superstars, have turned to Dr. Karp to learn his secrets for making babies and toddlers happy, confident and well-behaved.

Dr. Karp, assistant professor of pediatrics at USC School of Medicine, is America’s most-read pediatrician, and his works are translated into 24 languages. He has appeared frequently on Good Morning America, Larry King Live, The View, The Dr. Phil Show, ABC News World News Tonight, and many national radio programs.

In addition, his work has been featured in the Associated Press, The New York Times, USA Today as well as People Magazine, Time and Newsweek.

Dr. Karp, pediatrician and child development specialist for 30 years, has found there is a remedy for colic. “I share with parents techniques known only to the most gifted baby soothers throughout history,” he writes. “And I explain exactly how they work.”

These educational tools are filled with sage advice, commonly asked questions and parent testimonials, and will fascinate everyone who wants to know how babies experience the world and how to answer their cries lovingly and effectively.

In an innovative and thought-provoking re-evaluation of early infancy, Dr. Karp blends modern science and ancient wisdom to prove that newborns are not fully ready for the world when they are born.

Dr. Karp will be available after the presentation to answer questions. Dr. Karp’s appearance is part of a comprehensive Baby Expo on raising happy and healthy children offered for free thanks to the sponsorship of Kohl’s Cares and Tidewater Parent magazine.
