Suffolk Walmart raises more donations than 4,500 Walmarts in children's hospital fund raiser
HAMPTON ROADS, Va – The Walmart on Main Street in Suffolk raised more donations for CHKD than 4,500 of its sister stores did in a nationwide campaign to raise money for children’s hospitals.
The Suffolk Walmart raised $83,580.23 with the help of customers who gave donations at the registers, bought T-shifts and food concessions during a fund-raising cookout.
“It’s amazing,” said Larissa Tringer, director of corporate relations and special events for CHKD. “These results are really astounding. We’re really, really proud that for a smaller community, we have a lot of people with big hearts.”
But those spectacular results were not limited to the local Walmart. Of the top 20 Walmarts ranked by donations raised for the nationwide fund raiser, 12 of them were in Hampton Roads. The 28 Walmarts in our region have raised more than $850,000 so far and are shooting for over $1 million for the year.
