Free Kohl's-sponsored CHKD parenting classes and seminars in September

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public program will be offered by CHKD and Kohl’s Cares Family Forum in September.

September 4 - September 25, 24/7 Dads Program. Free. 5:15-8 p.m. Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Board Room, 2nd floor, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk. This free four-week program (for dads only) will give you a better understanding of your role as a father and the roles played in raising a child by other family members. Learn about basic parenting skills, positive discipline, expectations and child development, communication techniques with any age child, and how to get involved with your child. The influence of your health, your culture and how you were raised will be discussed. The class book will be provided free of charge. This is a Kohl's Cares Family Forum event. September 19, Happiest Baby on the Block. Free. 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. CHKD Health Center at Oakbrooke, 3rd floor conference room, 500 Discovery Dr., Chesapeake. This two-hour class for expectant and new parents will help Mom and Dad navigate the first months of Baby's life while learning how to soothe even the fussiest infant in minutes and help Baby sleep longer. Parents will learn about the calming reflex, the cuddle cure and the "5 Ss." All participants will receive "The Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD by Dr. Harvey Karp and a soothing sounds CD. September 25, How to Raise Self-reliant Children in a Self-indulgent World (Parent's program). Free. 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Hilton Garden Inn, Riverfront Ball Room, 5921 Harbour View Blvd., Suffolk. Anger, frustration, and, at times, desperation are feelings parents may experience when trying to teach their children valuable social and life skills for success. Learn from Jane Nelsen, EdD about the significant seven perceptions and skills for developing capable young people.
