Free CHKD parenting classes and seminars in June

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD in June.

June 4, Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg Monthly Open House. Free. 5:30-6:30 p.m. Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg, 119 Bulifants Boulevard, Williamsburg. For new or expectant parents or families looking for a pediatrician. Register online at www.chkd.org/classes.

June 5, Life with a Strong Willed Child. Free. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. CHKD Health Center at Oakbrooke, 3rd floor conference room 500 Discovery Drive, Chesapeake. Parents and caregivers will learn how to understand challenging behaviors, how development and temperament affect behavior, and supportive ways of handling spirited children. June 12, Positive Discipline for Teenagers. Free. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Brickhouse Auditorium, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk. Parenting a teen can be challenging, especially when it comes to discipline. Learn how you can help raise teenagers to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities. June 27, Helping Young Children Manage Emotions. Free. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Princess Anne, 1st floor conference room, 2021 Concert Drive, Virginia Beach. Children's emotional outbursts can be challenging and difficult to respond to appropriately. Learn how an adult's response to a child's emotional upset can either foster or inhibit a child's ability to develop self-regulation. Participants will learn to recognize their emotional triggers, and how to help children develop the ability to self-regulate and cope when upset.
