Free CHKD parenting classes and seminars in July

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD in July.

July 3, Welcome, Baby! At Pediatric Specialists. Free. 6:00-7:00 p.m. Pediatric Specialists, 885 Kempsville Rd., Suite 200, Norfolk. At this class for new and expectant parents, our pediatrician will discuss immunizations, breastfeeding, bathing, sleep safety and more. July 16, Nansemond Pediatrics Meet and Greet/Baby Care 101. Free. 5:30-6:30 p.m. Nansemond Pediatrics, 1005 Commercial Lane Suite 220, Suffolk. July 17, Helping Young Children Manage Emotions. Free. 6:30-8:30 p.m. CHKD Health Center at Oakbrooke, 3rd  floor conference room, 500 Discovery Drive, Chesapeake. Children's emotional outbursts can be challenging and difficult to respond to appropriately. Learn how an adult's response to a child's emotional upset can either foster or inhibit a child's ability to develop self-regulation. Participants will learn to recognize their emotional triggers, and how to help children develop the ability to self-regulate and cope when upset. Class for new and expectant parents who want to learn about providing a safe and secure environment for their infants.  Learn about how to bathe and comfort your baby, about belly button and diaper care, how to position your baby for sleep and general household and car seat safety tips. July 23, Practical Parenting Webinar: Great Expectations- Pre-School. Free. 12:00-1:00 p.m. Webinar, Broadcast from CHKD Norfolk. Learn developmental expectations and create consistent, nurturing routines to optimize growth and development in pre-school children.
