New orthopedic surgeon joins CHKD Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery program


NORFOLK, Va. –- Dr. Allison M. Tenfelde, a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, has joined the orthopedic surgery practice of CHKD’s Surgical Group. Other physicians providing Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery services at CHKD include primary care sports medicine physicians Drs. Joel Brenner, David Smith and Aisha Joyce and orthopedic surgeons Drs. J. Marc Cardelia, Allison Crepeau, Cara Novick, H. Sheldon St. Clair and Carl St. Remy.

Dr. Tenfelde attended medical school at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed two fellowships -- one in pediatric orthopedic surgery at University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and another in orthopedic sports medicine at Detroit Medical Center. Prior to medical school, she spent seven years as a certified athletic trainer at a variety of institutions including Michigan Capital Medical Center, University of Utah, Concentra Occupational Health Center and St. John Health System.

The CHKD Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery program specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of a wide variety of issues facing physically active children and teens. This care is backed by CHKD's full complement of pediatric health services and is provided by primary care sports medicine specialists, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physical therapists and certified athletic trainers who understand the special demands that sports place on young, growing bodies.

Sports Medicine patients are seen at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, as well as the CHKD Health Centers in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Newport News and Virginia Beach.
