Free CHKD parenting classes and seminars in February

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD in February.

February 5, Welcome, Baby! At Pediatric Specialists. Free. 6:00-7:00 p.m. Pediatric Specialists, 885 Kempsville Road, Suite 200, Norfolk. At this class for new and expectant parents, our pediatrician will discuss immunizations, breastfeeding, bathing, sleep safety and more. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and tour the office. Register online at www.chkd.org/classes.

February 8, Happiest Baby on The Block. Free. 10:00 a.m.-Noon. CHKD Health Center at Oakbrooke, 3rd floor conference room 500 Discovery Dr., Chesapeake. This two-hour class for expectant and new parents will help navigate the first 2 -3 months of baby's life while learning how to soothe even the fussiest infant in minutes and help babies sleep longer. Parents will learn about the calming reflex, the cuddle cure and the "5 Ss." All participants will receive "The Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD by Dr. Harvey Karp and a soothing sounds CD. February 8, Sibshops for ages 6-10 years old. Free. 10:00 a.m.-Noon. Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 6th floor conference room, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk. Sibshops are lively, pedal-to-the medal celebrations of the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. February 10, Practical Parenting Webinar: Great Expectations – Pre-school. Free. 9:30-10:30 a.m. Webinar, in real-time from CHKD, Norfolk. Learn developmental expectations, and create consistent, nurturing routines to optimize growth and development in pre-school children.
