Free CHKD parenting classes and seminars in January

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.—The following free public programs will be offered by CHKD in January.

January 6, Mindful Monday Series for Parents and Professionals. Free. 6:30-8:00 p.m. Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 6th floor conference room, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk. Learn a new concept and skill each session to reduce stress and guide you in raising joyful and resilient children. Focus on awareness, regulation and deliberate action as tools to enhance relationships and build positive connection with children. Understand how mindfulness can support positive growth and create cooperative, competent and caring individuals. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions: January 6, 27, February 3, 17, March 3, 10. Certificates will be given for attendance. January 8, Welcome, Baby! At Pediatric Specialists. Free. 6:00-7:00 p.m. Pediatric Specialists, 885 Kempsville Road, Suite 200, Norfolk. At this class for new and expectant parents, our pediatrician will discuss immunizations, breastfeeding, bathing, sleep safety and more. January 9, Parenting on the Same Page: For Parenting Partners. Free. 6:30-8:30 p.m. CHKD Health Center at Princess Anne, 1st floor conference room, 2021 Concert Drive, Virginia Beach. Raising children is challenging, but even more so when the parent's discipline styles are different. Learn where your parenting philosophy and mindset come from and how to support a unified front when parenting your child. Learn strategies to create coopertation between parents and children. Sibshops are lively, pedal-to-the medal celebrations of the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Sibshops acknowledge that being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, and for many not-so-good thing, and for many somewhere in between. January 13, Practical Parenting Webinar: Great Expectations- Infants. Free. 9:30-10:30 a.m. Webinar, Broadcast from CHKD Norfolk. January 22, Practical Parenting Webinar: How to Get Some Sleep! Free. Noon-1:00 p.m. Webinar, in real-time from CHKD, Norfolk. Join Dr. Michael Strunc, director of pediatric sleep medicine at CHKD, and learn what normal sleep is from infants to adolescents. Understand how much sleep is needed to stay healthy, well-rested and productive.
