CHKD Telethon
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and WVEC-TV Channel 13 will celebrate 25 years of miracles when the hospital’s annual Telethon Celebration airs from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.
The live broadcast will be hosted by WVEC personalities David Alan, Vanessa Coria, Joe Flanagan, Regina Mobley, Craig Moeller, Sandra Parker and Janet Roach. The hosts will interview patients who have appeared on past telethons over the 25 years, including Nick Manning, the CHKD patient who was named Virginia's Champion for the 2008 Champions Across America program.
In addition to the action in the hospital’s lobby, WVEC medical editor Kathryn Barrett will do live reports from the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and transitional care unit. The broadcast will also feature representatives from local businesses and organizations who will present their gifts from fund-raisers held throughout the year.
All proceeds from the Telethon Celebration benefit CHKD, the area's only hospital dedicated exclusively to children. CHKD provides a comprehensive range of services -- from primary care and immunizations to life-saving critical care -- to the children of southeastern Virginia, northeastern North Carolina and Virginia's Eastern Shore. CHKD is one of the 170 premier hospitals affiliated with Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for affiliated children's hospitals throughout North America.
During our live local Telethon Celebration on WVEC-TV 13, gifts of $2,000 or more will be recognized through appearances and check presentations while viewers call in support. This is a unique opportunity for your company or organization to make a difference in the life of a child, and better the community. Telethon Celebration pledges can be made on June 1 by calling (757) 668-9000 or 1-866-580-5437.
