Stories like Ethan Konrad's.

When Ethan was 2 years old, he started showing odd symptoms. His mother Jennifer said Ethan (pictured to the right) started to flop over like "a rag doll."

Jennifer and Ethan's father Mark took Ethan to Portsmouth Naval and he was referred to CHKD, where he was diagnosed with Guillaine-Barre syndrome, a disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the nervous system.

Victoria Thatch:
One of our many stories

Victoria Thatch

Victoria Thatch (above) is a 19-year-old college student at George Mason University. When she was 3, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. After numerous surgeries, radiation treatments, and a year of chemotherapy, she seemed to have beaten cancer. And for 16 years, Victoria lived disease-free.

Then in October of 2011, she began experiencing back pain. In February of this year, she received the news no one ever wants to hear -– an MRI at CHKD revealed a tumor in her spine.

She had surgery Johns Hopkins for surgery to remove the tumor, along with six inches of her spine. She returned to CHKD to began intense treatment for High Risk Fibrosarcoma, a rare cancer that only 1-in-2 million people are diagnosed with a year. She is currently undergoing high dose chemotherapy at CHKD.

She has also completed eight weeks of intense proton therapy treatment at Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, which has partnered with CHKD for pediatric cancer care. It has been a tough battle for Victoria over the past few months, but it is a journey that has made her stronger and ready to face whatever challenge comes her way.

Ethan's case was serious and required intensive physical therapy, some of it in CHKD's therapy pool at the Oakbrooke Health and Surgery Center in Chesapeake. Today, Ethan continues to undergo therapy, but is a social dynamo and an incredibly happy child despite everything he's faced.

Ethan's is just of of the remarkable stories you'll hear when you tune into to hear Chuck and Woo Woo, The Morning Point's crew, when they broadcast the Radiothon live from the CHKD lobby in Norfolk.
