Maternal / Newborn Transport Reviews

The participant will be able to:
- State current diagnostic measures and treatment modalities for the high-risk mother, fetus and neonate.
- Recall outcome data on selected cases of patients referred from regional hospitals and identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
- Describe care and stabilization of the maternal and neonatal transport process to ensure safe and orderly transport of patients.

14th Annual Pediatric Emergency Medicine Update

This professional educational conference is designed to provide emergency physicians, pediatricians, family practitioner and other healthcare providers with state-of-the-art evidence-based information in pediatric emergency medicine.
The morning session will begin with the 17th Annual Forrest White Visiting Lectureship presented by Gary Geis, MD. Dr. Geis will discuss medical simulation training as well as rapid sequence intubation and video laryngoscopy. Emergency medicine staff from Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Emergency Center will present a variety of topics pertinent to pediatric emergency care through lectures and case presentations. Topics include, medical simulation training, delirium, pediatric drug abuse, PALS, sepsis, dizziness, and management of the crying infant.
This Pediatric Emergency Medicine Update has been organized to inform the pediatrician, family practitioner and emergency department physician. Residents, nurses and other health care professionals are encouraged to attend.

Heavy Kids, Heavy Hearts: The Psychological and Emotional Aspects of Childhood Obesity

Join Jill Hernandez Layne LCSW, and Trisha Belford-Cohen LCSW, from CHKD’s Healthy You For Life™ Program to learn about the complex psychosocial and emotional aspects of childhood obesity. Participants will leave with heightened sensitivity and increased awareness of the multi-dimensional aspects within childhood obesity, and become familiar with the resources and types of treatment available for children and families in our community.
Trainer’s Bios:
Both Jill and Trisha work with a multi-disciplinary team, providing assessment and on-going counseling support for clinically obese children and their families who are striving to make healthy lifestyle changes. Jill became a licensed clinical social worker in 1996, after completing her studies at ODU, and VCU. She has practiced in medical settings for the past 15 years, providing services to individuals and families and educating professionals. She joined the CHKD Healthy You For Life™ Program in November 2010. Trisha became a licensed clinical social worker in 1994 after completing her studies at Oklahoma University and Norfolk State. Trisha specializes in working with adolescents and adults with addictions and eating disorders. She joined the CHKD Healthy You For Life™ Program in 2004.

Topics include: Getting your team ready for competition, Concussion update, Hydration and heat illness indicators, Supplements and Energy Drinks, and Dynamic Stretching and warm-up techniques, In addition, there will be two break out session to choose from that will cover Strength and weight training, plyometrics and agility, flexibility and core strengthening and training the female athlete. CHKD Child Abuse Conference: Improving Awareness and Community Response
CHKD promotes a multidisciplinary approach to child abuse cases. This purpose of this conference is to increase awareness and response to current child abuse issues including emerging trends in child maltreatment, such as commercial sexual exploitation of children. This conference is for any professionals involved in the investigation, protection or prosecution of child abuse or neglect cases.
