Student Nurse Externships
Transitioning from the classroom to a career can be challenging. You can get a head start on your nursing career by taking advantage of this unique opportunity to explore the rewarding world of pediatric nursing.
Earn as you learn while working in our caring, nurturing environment under the guidance of a nurse preceptor.
Our nurse externs can choose from a variety of pediatric specialties that include general medical and surgical nursing, intensive care nursing (in our NICU and PICU), emergency room nursing and any one of our specialty units – such as hematology/oncology, rehabilitation, transitional care and short-term procedures.
The nurse extern has full accessibility to all the outstanding activities of our nurses, such as nursing grand rounds, educational programs, in-services, and nursing practice programs.
The Student Nurse Extern Program at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is open to any nursing student who has completed at least two semesters of clinical experience and is in good standing at an accredited school of nursing. If you have an interest in working with children after graduation, you will find this experience gives you a world of eye-opening, heartwarming and career-making opportunities.
