Nursing at CHKD
Join Me at CHKD
Brandon Thompson, who grew up in Western Branch, says he always knew he’d end up at CHKD -- "with kids and in an OR," he said. "I like its fast pace."
After graduating from Radford University, Brandon was in the first group of new graduates to come through CHKD’s operating room internship for nurses, a summer program with intense introduction to CHKD. "Education is a big deal to CHKD," he says. "They want you to grow within the organization." In five years, Brandon has gone from intern, to staff nurse, to charge nurse, to operations coordinator and now manager of the OR.
"CHKD is a very special place and a family organization. The most rewarding thing is getting to help with children’s quality of life. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a difference in kids’ lives, from their treatment to sitting with them when they’re scared. It’s an honor and a privilege."
