Radioisotope shortage – Technetium

CHKD Nuclear Medicine is currently being affected by the severe Technetium shortage that has been taking place nationwide over the past 6 months. We received notice yesterday from our local radiopharmacy that we will have to determine on a daily basis the availability of Technetium. This will impact nuclear medicine studies that require Technetium isotopes, ie: bone, renal and GI

We will continue to make every effort to meet our patients diagnostic imaging needs during this shortage with the understanding that we may need to reschedule studies if the Technetium is not available. The nuclear medicine staff will contact the local radiopharmacy to check on the availability of Technetium when a study is scheduled/requested 24/48 hours prior to the study to verify the dose can be provided. If the dose cannot be provided the patient will be rescheduled and the office will be notified. If you have any questions or concerns related to the shortage please feel free to contact Lori Gay at 668-7092.

Thank you for your understanding as we work through this nationwide shortage.
