Amy Kenney, CGC

"I enjoy working at CHKD as it has truly become a hospital that excels at being patient- and family-focused. I enjoy the continuous challenge that comes with the evolving knowledge of genetics, but what I find most rewarding is connecting with patients and their families, empowering them with information to make personal health decisions, and supporting them through the process of genetic testing."

Kenney, a board certified and licensed genetic counselor, began her career as a prenatal genetic counselor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she helped families navigate the genetic screening process of their baby. She has broadened her experience and skill set in pediatrics, where she assists families in understanding genetic testing and results of testing along with pedigree analysis, inheritance, management, information on relevant support services in the community, and family planning.

The field of genetics is rapidly evolving and there are now more than 2,000 genetic tests available. Kenney enjoys educating the community about genetics and serves as a supervisor and mentor for the VCU genetic counseling students and the local residents and medical students.
